The Holy Experiment

Look at what comes out of this Commonwealth.

A family farm feeding a region. A startup reshaping an industry. A craftsman building things meant to outlast him. A manufacturer in a town most people drive past. From Erie to the Delaware Valley the sheer volume of creativity, grit, and enterprise that originates in Pennsylvania is, frankly, remarkable.

And a striking number of the people behind it share something they rarely say out loud in a business setting: they believe their work is a calling.

Three hundred years ago, William Penn called this place a Holy Experiment. His vision was a Commonwealth where faith and work could thrive in the same room. That experiment isn't finished.

On October 1, we're gathering the people still running it around one table, over dinner, in the heart of Lancaster County.

Many Christian business leaders in Pennsylvania are leading alone.

Not for lack of talent or conviction but because we've absorbed the idea that our P&L and our prayers don't belong in the same conversation. So, we build in silos. We carry the weight of a company and the weight of our faith without anyone to share either one.

The Pennsylvania Christian Chamber of Commerce exists to end that isolation. Our vision is a connected network of Christian chambers across the Commonwealth where businesses flourish spiritually, personally, and professionally.

She dropped out of college. She finished later, added a master’s, and studied at Harvard Business School in a program built for senior executives. In between she ran organizations for a Fortune 200 oil and gas company, leading hundreds of people who delivered award-winning service to more than two million customers. She now leads the national Christian chamber movement and calls herself a marketplace missionary. On October 1 she brings Pennsylvania the national picture, and what it means that we are stepping into it.

They are a professional theatre ministry based right here in Lancaster, and they have been performing Scripture since 2007. Trained actors who commit the text to memory and deliver it with the weight it was written with.

Most of us have heard Ephesians 3 read aloud. Very few of us have heard it like this.
